Introduction
Willkommen Bienvenue Welcome
This site presents a broad cross-section of my work from 2002 - 2018, divided into sections listed in the Main Menu that include teaser trailers, television and theatrical promotions, special projects, short and long form documentaries. All together there are over one hundred individual clips, but if you only need a quick overview then The Essential 7 is the best place to start.
Videos are generally presented alphabetically rather than chronologically and are in either English and/or Italian. The icons:

connect to pages where content is presented directly in either English or Italian according to availability.
While a great percentage of the works presented here are promos and trailers, this does not mean I work exclusively with these formats. I could post numerous projects with running times over one, two or even three hours, but I do not believe anyone here has the inclination to sit through one of those. Promos and trailers are useful precisely because of their concise nature. When Brian Eno was commisioned by Microsoft to compose the famous start up music for Windows known as "The Microsoft Sound" he described the brief thus: "'We want a piece of music that is inspiring, universal, blah-blah, da-da-da, optimistic, futuristic, sentimental, emotional,' this whole list of adjectives, and then at the bottom it said 'and it must be 3.25 seconds long.'" But Eno goes on to describe the task: "In fact, I made 84 pieces. I got completely into this world of tiny, tiny little pieces of music... It's like making a tiny little jewel."
And that's how I view teasers, promos and trailers. Great opportunities to work in miniature and to test-drive ideas about image, sound and music that eventually inform all my work.
So whether you are looking to produce a semi-silent ode to delicate beauty and the evanescent essence of time, or a full-on flame-throwng barnstormer, what I hope this selection of work demonstrates, is above all an empathy for the subject. To quote Hannibal Lecter paraphrasing Marcus Aurelius "Of each particular thing, ask what is it in itself? What is its nature?" In the world of practical realities the next questions concern budgets and deadlines, but that quotation does reflect my approach to every project.
Promoted content for thematic channels can be repetitive by nature, but this site seeks to present an evolution and continuity of style, technical discipline, consistent quality, an ability to hold your attention and to always tell a story - regardless of subject and duration.
Thank you for your attention,
Stuart Mabey
